lars and alisa

Scenario Campaign focused on these two from start to finish. While we controlled Lars, we had Alisa follow us around.
I could say that this is one of the most important relationships involving Lars, but I wouldn't be the one to take it that far. We can only assume that Lars broke into the laboratory to find Alisa...although, he had no idea of who or what she was when he found her, his prior knowledge pre-amnesia was that the actual Alisa Bosconovitch is deceased. It's not until an amnesia-ridden Lars trips onto the capsule that Alisa wakes. She doesn't know who he is, all she knows is that she was instructed to wait for her father. She saves him from an attacking Jack, and vice versa. All Lars does is pull Alisa out of there so they can escape.
Alisa is, quite literally, a walking, fighting database. We get some insight into her through her journal entries. Alisa is a sweetheart through and through, and Lars is nice to her, that much is certain. We still don't know why he might have invaded the lab, perhaps it was to stop Alisa from being used against them, we don't know. We can only assume things regarding that matter. Lars knows that Alisa was built for combat, and on more than one occasions we see that he's sneaking glances and getting lost in thought concerning her origins. Lars still can't formulate an opinion, even as Wang asks him what he thinks of her, for Alisa is indeed dangerous.
I'm not the one to think that Lars is smitten with her/loves her, but he
does care about her well-being. Lars strikes the me as the type to be considerate of the ladies. If it weren't Alisa, but another female character I'm sure he'd be considerate of them as well. Alisa is his only actual traveling companion throughout Scenario Campaign, even as they encounter more friends and potential enemies. So it's not a surprise that Alisa would serve as someone to keep Lars' spirits up if he'd been feeling down.
The best scenes, in my opinion
(can't forget that, fandom requires it D:) featuring these two would be toward the end of the game, where Jin turns her on Lars. Lars really doesn't want to fight Alisa and tries on more than one occasion to snap her out of it. He treats Alisa like a real person; common sense would have told Lars that he can't force a machine to snap out of anything. Raven said it best in his journal entry: "Guess you can't blame a bot for following her core programming." I think Alisa in other terms after her first fight with Lars tries to be human; it's almost as if she has returned back to normal but it fails and she attacks Lars again. Instead of finishing the mission, she flies off and leaves.
The second battle happens later on and Alisa still can't remember who Lars is, she only sees him as an enemy that must be terminated and she forces Lars into combat once again. Lars is the victor; she's no match for him. Alisa admits that she didn't want to fight Lars, but she was designed to protect Jin and she couldn't disobey those orders. This still enforces the part that Alisa is still more machine than she is a human being. Yes, the counterpoint is that she's aware of what she is doing is something she does not want to do, therefore that points out the 'human' characteristics of that sense of what's right and wrong. However, she does say she could not disobey. What Alisa lacks is 'free will'. Lars of course didn't care that she was a robot, he still treated her as if she were real and I assume he would continue to treat her as such. Alisa enjoyed traveling with Lars, and I'm certain that Lars found comfort in their travels too, disregarding the circumstances. She was with him from start to finish, why shouldn't he become attached?
When Alisa shuts down, Lars is oddly quiet, he wasn't as vocal/expressive in his grief as he was with Tougou. It was like Lars needed time for it to settle in that he had to take out his friend, just because Jin forced her to fight against him. I do believe Lars was hurt, and he had every right to snap at Jin when he just dismissed Alisa as if she was insignificant. She might have been that way to Jin, but not to Lars. Jin mocks Lars, asking if he was in love with Alisa. I don't think he was. I think he cared about her, yes. But not that OMGLOVE type of feeling. Personally, I would be pissed off too if I was forced to fight my friend because somebody was being a douche. I'd also be hurt if I lost my friend, and if there was a window to save them, I'd take it without hesitation.
Alisa doesn't meet her end, thankfully. Lars uses his favor from Lee to get her back up and running, so there is hope for Alisa. In Raven's journal entry, he states that Lars isn't letting Alisa out of his sight for a moment. As I've mentioned before, I think that once you're a comrade of Lars', you're there for good technically...unless you do Lars so wrong he has to kill you.
Romantically, I'm not saying it couldn't happen. However, Alisa is predominantly robot—she
is aware of it—and she has her emotions installed and they activate according to the situation. Secondly, Alisa seems to be learning more and more things every day; she's like a child in a sense. Alisa strikes me as somewhat naive, but still insanely book-smart. I'm sure she'd be able to register love, but....well...she vaguely reminds me of a smarter Chii from Chobits with a couple of chainsaws. It's not my cup of tea, nor am I denying any other kind of relationship they have—I think they're friends—so, to each his/her own, and let's all play nice. :)
